Getting Started

As a part of our new look website we are going to have a few bloggers to keep you informed and entertained. So to get the ball rolling I will be doing one on how the speedbox team is going and all the new developments that we roll out.

I am Norton Isaac, 36 years old and I love motorsport. I was raised by a solo mum and she made sure I didn't miss out on the man stuff by taking me to lots of speedway events. Our local tracks were the original Bay Park in Tauranga and Paradise Valley raceway in Rotorua. I am a welder by trade but found my way into the television industry and have never looked back. I am one of the people behind the speedbox concept. My video updates are on facebook, I'm the bald(ish) guy.

This website has been put together by Mary (my wife), we decided we needed to have more control over it so for the last two years she has been busy learning how to construct one on a platform that works for what we do. We have kept it simple so it is easy to use, and we still have many more things to implement, but with the live season upon us again we have turned our attention to nailing that.

For those of you who care, its on a platform called Drupal. That is a back end management system and is used by NASA, The White house (in the USA not Auckland!) and Brittany Spears just to name a few. It was NASA and the White house and many other amazing websites that made us think it would be a good platform, Brittany Spears just made us laugh.

You will notice a small price increase across the board on our Live Streams. There are two reasons for this. Firstly we need to cover costs, it's not cheap to do what we do, and so far we have dug a very big hole for ourselves. The long term success of this operation means we must become commercially viable, we are very close to this and it only means good things. Secondly we need to increase the return to the promoters of the events that we cover. Without them we cannot live stream their events. I wouldn't rule out another price rise next year as we try to reach that happy place! We could avoid that if our numbers grow dramatically. I know some of you won't be happy about this and I do apologise for it. There is a rock and a hard place and you know where I am.

This year we have spent significant money on advertising. We hope this will lead to a greater uptake of our live streams. You can help us by telling your mates who love these sports that if they can't be there then they can watch it live on speedbox.tv

We are just six days out from our first live stream and my lounge is full of equipment that I have been testing. The satellite is tested, all I have to do now is drive to Wanganui and get started.

What will you be doing on Christmas day? My wife and I will be cabling the Cemetery Circuit race track. Why? Because we love what we do and believe this is the way forward for our industries. Televsion and Motorsport.
